The purpose of this study was to investigate the ability of whey-protein and leucine supplementation to enhance physical and cognitive performance and body composition. Thirty moderately fit participants completed a modified Air Force fitness test, a computer-based cognition test, and a dual-energy X-ray-absorptiometry scan for body composition before and after supplementing their daily diet for 8 wk with either 19.7 g of whey protein and 6.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate intraoperative glucose control.
Design: Prospective unblinded study.
Setting: Tertiary care center.
Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of an experimental approach to forced air warming using hospital blankets or a Bair Hugger warming unit (Augustine Medical Inc., Eden Prairie, MN) to create a tent of warm air.
Methods: Adult patients undergoing major surgery were studied.
The signaling pathways that couple light photoreception to entrainment of the circadian clock have yet to be deciphered. Two prominent groups of candidates for the circadian photoreceptors are opsins (e.g.

The primary hallmark of circadian clocks is their ability to entrain to environmental stimuli. The dominant, and therefore most physiologically important, entraining stimulus comes from environmental light cycles. Here we describe the establishment and characterization of a new cell line, designated Z3, which derives from zebrafish embryos and contains an independent, light-entrainable circadian oscillator.
