Early Oral Feeding in Patients Undergoing Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery: A Propensity Score-matching Study.

Background/aim: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol is adopted in clinical practice worldwide, but a lack of evidence for measurable benefits after upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgeries can be detected especially regarding early oral feeding.

Patients And Methods: A propensity score-matching study was conducted at the Department of Surgery of the University of Pécs between January 2020 and December 2023. The study included patients who underwent upper GI cancer surgery and were treated according to an early oral feeding protocol (EOF).

From gaming to surgery: the influence of digital natives on robotic skills development.

Our study investigates the potential correlation between generational differences, like age and previous experience with digital innovations, such as video games and smartphones, and the performance on the Da Vinci Skills Simulator, the cornerstone of robotic surgery training. Thirty participants were involved from three age groups: Generation Alpha, Generation Z, and Generation X. None had prior robotic surgical experience.

Blood parameter examination in mountain quails (Oreortyx pictus Douglas, 1829) at the end of the breeding season.

In this publication various serum biochemistry and haematology parameters were determined from blood samples obtained from captive adult individuals of an exotic quail species, the mountain quail (Oreortyx pictus, Douglas, 1829). Venipuncture was performed in the second half of the breeding season from six roosters (males) and seven hens (females). During the examination, in addition to the haematological elements, basic parameters of serum enzyme levels, the products of protein metabolism, uric acid and the most important ions were monitored.

Safety and Effectiveness of a 4-Week Diet on Low-Carb Ready-to-Eat Ketogenic Products as Preoperative Care Treatment in Patients Scheduled for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Before metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS), moderate weight loss and liver left lateral section (LLLS) volume reduction are desirable. Low-carb ketogenic diet-induced weight loss before MBS has been shown to have beneficial effects on the reduction in body weight (BW) and LLLS. However, the nutritional protocol of low-carb ketogenic diet may be hard to keep for prolonged periods due to the lack of sweet taste.
