24-h urinary free cortisol (UFC) measurements are fundamental in the diagnosis and follow-up of Cushinǵs syndrome (CS) and immunoassays (IA) are the most widely used tests for its quantification in clinical laboratory practice. However, their suitability has been questioned mainly due to their limitations concerning analytical specificity. The aim of this research project was to evaluate a novel algorithm for CS diagnosis and follow-up in the clinical laboratory, based on the combination of IA tests with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for UFC quantification.

Sourdough bread enriched with soluble fiber (by in-situ exopolysaccharides production) and insoluble fiber (by gazpacho by-products addition) showed prebiotic effects an in vitro dynamic colonic fermentation performance with obese volunteer's microbiota. Bifidobacterium population was maintained whereas Lactobacillus increased throughout the colonic sections. Conversely, Enterobacteriaceae and Clostridium groups clearly decreased.

Elicited pumpkin was evaluated as a potential daily consumption product able to modulate the gut microbiota. An in vitro dynamic colonic fermentation performance with microbiota from obese volunteers was used. Prebiotic effects were observed after the pumpkin treatment.

How to do and evaluate DWI and DCE-MRI sequences for diabetic foot assessment.

MRI evaluation of the diabetic foot is still a challenge not only from an interpretative but also from a technical point of view. The incorporation of advanced sequences such as diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI into standard protocols for diabetic foot assessment could aid radiologists in differentiating between neuropathic osteoarthropathy (Charcot's foot) and osteomyelitis. This distinction is crucial as both conditions can coexist in diabetic patients, and they require markedly different clinical management and have distinct prognoses.
