Carbapenem-resistant and virulence plasmid-harboring Klebsiella pneumoniae (pVir-CRKP) has emerged and spread globally, yet clinical investigations from the United States remain limited. We conducted a genomic analysis of 884 unique carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae isolates from a multicenter US cohort and identified 6 pVir-CRKP isolates, including 2 sequence type (ST) 23, 2 ST893, and 2 ST11 isolates.

Quantum dots (QDs), particularly those in the short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) range, have garnered significant attention for their unique optical and electrical properties resulting from 3D quantum confinement. Among the various chalcogenide-based QDs, lead chalcogenides, such as PbS and PbSe, are extensively studied for infrared photodetection applications. While PbSe QDs offer advantages over PbS, including a narrower bandgap and higher carrier mobility, they suffer from stability issues due to surface oxidation and particle aggregation.

Background: Relapsed/refractory pediatric CNS tumors have a poor prognosis. EGFR is commonly overexpressed, but EGFRvIII mutations are uncommon. To target these tumors, we used chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells with a binder based on mAb806 which recognizes ectopically expressed wild-type EGFR and EGFRvIII.

In February 1968, NASA purchased 400 antigravity ballpoint pens from the Fisher Pen Company for the Apollo Program to prevent potential harm to astronauts and equipment. Mechanical pencils previously used in microgravity posed risks like eye injuries from floating fragments penetrating the cornea. The cornea is vulnerable to abrasions, perforations, and chemical burns in such environments, affecting crewmembers aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Background: Booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines are required to maintain protection against SARS-CoV-2. However, real-world evidence from South America, needed to inform optimal vaccination strategies, is lacking. Herein, we present the final analysis of REFORCO-Brazil, a large-scale assessment of relative vaccine effectiveness (rVE) of second boosters (vs first boosters) against hospitalization with COVID-19.
