Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how intestinal colonization with multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales (MDRE-IC) affects the risk of bloodstream infections (nE-BSI) in hospitalized patients, finding that MDRE-IC significantly increases this risk.
  • - Conducted at a large hospital in 2019, the research involved over 7000 patients, with 11.9% found to have MDRE-IC; those colonized had a higher incidence of nE-BSI compared to non-colonized patients.
  • - The results highlight the importance of improving infection control and antibiotic use strategies in hospitals to reduce the risk of bloodstream infections related to MDRE colonization.

Pharmacy decision support systems (PDSS) help clinical pharmacists to prevent and detect adverse drug events. The coding of hospital stays by the department of medical information (DMI) requires expertise, as it determines hospital revenues and the epidemiological data transmitted via the French national hospital database. The aim was to study the interest and feasibility of using a PDSS, in collaboration with the DMI, to help with the coding of hospital stays.

Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 2,515 patients were examined, primarily with lung and renal cancer, revealing a one-year survival rate of 84.3% and low mortality and morbidity rates post-surgery.
  • * Findings indicate that while adrenalectomy is increasingly performed minimally invasively, factors like extra-adrenal metastases and incomplete surgery are linked to poorer survival outcomes, highlighting a need for future research on patient selection for this procedure.
