Background: Nuclear factor E2 related factor-2 (Nrf2) is an oxidative stress inducible transcription factor being essential in regulating cell homeostasis. Thus, acute induction of Nrf2 in epithelial cells exposed to inflammation confers protection from oxidative cell damage and mutagenesis supporting an anti-tumorigenic role for Nrf2. However, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is characterized by persistent Nrf2 activity conferring therapy resistance which points to a pro-tumorigenic role of Nrf2.

Personal monitoring of exposure to particulate matter with a high temporal resolution.

Background: Continuous monitoring of air quality is implemented by government institutions at fixed ambient sites. However, the correlation between fixed site measurements and exposure of individual persons to air contaminants is likely to be weak.

Materials And Methods: We measured particulate matter both outdoors and indoors by following the spatial movement of individuals.

Seasonal timing of sperm production in roe deer: interrelationship among changes in ejaculate parameters, morphology and function of testis and accessory glands.

Roe deer are seasonal breeders with a short rutting season from mid-July to mid-August. The seasonality of reproductive activity in males is associated with cyclic changes between growth and involution of both testes and the accessory sex glands. This study characterizes morphological and functional parameters of these organs prior to, during and after breeding season in live adult roe deer bucks.

Quantitative regional blood volume studies in rat myocardium in vivo.

Many pathophysiological processes in the myocardium are in close relation to changes of the regional blood volume and regional myocardial blood flow or perfusion. Only few methods exist to obtain quantitative values for these parameters. Quantitative regional blood volume (RBV) studies in rat myocardium are presented using snapshot fast low angle shot (FLASH) inversion recovery T1 measurements with two different blood pool contrast agents, gadolinium diethylenetriaminopentaacetic acid (Gd-DTPA) albumin and Gd-DTPA polylysine.
