: A central component of search and rescue missions is the visual search of survivors. In large parts, this depends on human operators and is, therefore, subject to the constraints of human cognition, such as mental fatigue (MF). This makes detecting MF a critical step to be implemented in future systems.

Using case-based learning to teach evidence-based practice: A pilot study.

Background: The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) promotes the use of evidence-based practice (EBP) in the provision of clinical services by speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Therefore, training in the EBP process is vital in the education of future SLPs. Case-based learning (CBL) has been found effective in facilitating transfer of knowledge and skills in various fields; however, its utilisation to teach EBP to SLP students is understudied.

Computational identification of surface markers for isolating distinct subpopulations from heterogeneous cancer cell populations.

Intratumor heterogeneity reduces treatment efficacy and complicates our understanding of tumor progression and there is a pressing need to understand the functions of heterogeneous tumor cell subpopulations within a tumor, yet systems to study these processes in vitro are limited. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has revealed that some cancer cell lines include distinct subpopulations. Here, we present clusterCleaver, a computational package that uses metrics of statistical distance to identify candidate surface markers maximally unique to transcriptomic subpopulations in scRNA-seq which may be used for FACS isolation.

Double task switching: An investigation into the effects of similarity and task-rule congruency on cognitive flexibility.

Similarity between tasks is an understudied factor in research on cognitive flexibility. This behavioural experiment had 31 participants perform a task switch paradigm in which participants were required to switch between 4 tasks of varying similarity. The experiment was constructed in a way that simultaneously allows for investigating the impact of mental fatigue and task-rule congruency on the participants.
