Purpose: Fibula free flap is currently used in mandibular reconstruction. The main difficulties involved in this surgery concern mandible shaping and therefore, osteotomy positioning on the fibula. The use of navigation could help in osteotomy positioning, but accurate registration is required.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA model based on optical Bloch equations is developed to describe the interaction of femtosecond laser pulses with dielectric solids, accounting for optical-cycle-resolved electron dynamics. It includes the main physical processes at play: photoionization, impact ionization, direct and collisional laser heating, and recombination. By using an electron band structure, this approach also accounts for material optical properties as nonlinear polarization response.

When an intense and short laser pulse propagates in a dielectric material, significant production of conduction electrons through multiphoton absorption (MPA) may occur. In addition to the laser intensity, the MPA process depends mainly on the laser frequency spectrum which may evolve significantly during the course of laser propagation in the material. Simple models for MPA accounting for possible time-dependent evolution of the laser frequency spectrum (as harmonic generation, chirping or broadening) are addressed.

RTP is nonhygroscopic and does not induce piezoelectric ringing up to the megahertz range. It has large electro-optic (EO) coefficients and a high damage threshold.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe second harmonic generation in a thin ss-barium borate crystal is used to measure chi ((2)) cascading phenomena in the spectral domain. The harmonic generation is induced by two pulses produced by spectrally filtering a femtosecond pulse and centered at the wavelength lambda -Delta lambda and lambda +Delta lambda. New spectral components appear in spectral density of both the fundamental and harmonic pulses.
