Surgery for phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas: Current practice in the United Kingdom.

Introduction: There is wide variability in the perioperative management of phaeochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGL) in different centres. This study aimed to summarise the management of PPGLs as reported in the United Kingdom Registry for Endocrine and Thyroid Surgery (UKRETS) database and to determine current perioperative management of PPGLs by surveying UK clinicians.

Methods: Data recorded on UKRETS from 2005 to 2021 were subjected to descriptive analyses.

Collision tumors of the thyroid. A special clinical and pathological entity.

Thyroid collision tumors are rare entities that designate two histologically and morphologically distinct tumors that occur simultaneously or as metastases from other organs within the thyroid. Medullary and papillary carcinoma co-occurrence is the most frequent. Several theories tried to explain the pathogenic mechanisms underlining collision tumors, including the theory which assumes that one tumor predisposes the other, stem cell theory, and random effect theory, but their combination better explains the origin of these tumors.

The Impact of the Extent of Surgery on the Long-Term Outcomes of Patients with Low-Risk Differentiated Non-Medullary Thyroid Cancer: A Systematic Meta-Analysis.

Recently, the management of patients with low-risk differentiated non-medullary thyroid cancer (DTC), including papillary and follicular thyroid carcinoma subtypes, has been critically appraised, questioning whether these patients might be overtreated without a clear clinical benefit. The American Thyroid Association (ATA) guideline suggests that thyroid lobectomy (TL) could be a safe alternative for total thyroidectomy (TT) in patients with DTC up to 4 cm limited to the thyroid, without metastases. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the clinical outcomes in patients with low-risk DTC based on the extent of surgery.
