Unlabelled: Fish biologists have long assumed a link between intestinal length and diet, and relative gut length or Zihler's index are often used to classify species into trophic groups. This has been done for specific fish taxa or specific ecosystems, but not for a global fish dataset. Here, we assess these relationships across a dataset of 468 fish species (254 marine, 191 freshwater, and 23 that occupy both habitats) in relation to body mass and fish length.

How adaptive radiations proceed and what determines their extent remains unclear in most cases. Here we report the in-depth examination of the spectacular adaptive radiation of cichlid fishes in Lake Tanganyika.

The aim of the present study was to translate ThyPRO and ThyPRO-39 into Romanian, and to evaluate reliability and cross-cultural validity.
Methods: Standard methodology for translation and linguistic validation of patient-reported outcomes (PRO) was applied.
Sex steroids are major drivers of sexual development and also responsible for the maintenance of the established gender. Especially fishes exhibit great plasticity and less conservation in sex determination and sexual development compared to other vertebrate groups. In addition, fishes have a constant sex steroid production throughout their entire lifespan, which makes them particularly susceptible to interferences with the endogenous sex steroid system.

Materials And Methods: Demographic, clinical and pathological data were obtained from database registries. Histological subtypes of thyroid cancer were classified according to the WHO criteria (sixth edition, 2004) in the following categories: papillary thyroid carcinoma with its histological subtypes, follicular thyroid carcinoma, poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma, undifferentiated thyroid carcinoma, medullary carcinoma, lymphoma, metastatic tumors.
