How did the Covid-19 pandemic affect individuals with schizophrenia from Turkey?

Background: Serious mental illness, including schizophrenia, have been shown to be associated with psychosocial vulnerabilities in the face of adverse events. While individuals with schizophrenia might undergo many psychosocial difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, they might also not be affected, or report increased subjective well-being. This suggests that it is important to understand diverse impacts and further understand the unique experiences.

Carbondioxide pneumoperitoneum prevents postoperative adhesion formation in a rat cecal abrasion model.

Purpose: We aimed to investigate the role of the carbon-dioxide (CO(2)) pneumoperitoneum on the prevention of postoperative adhesion formation.

Methods: Thirty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats (250-350 g) were used for this study. The rats were randomly divided into three groups; in the sham group (n = 10) only, laparotomy was made, in group 2 (n = 10), a pneumoperitoneum was applied for a half-hour duration, followed by laparatomy, and in group 3 (n = 10), pneumoperitoenum time was 2 hours and after a pneumoperitoneum laparotomy was made.

Effect of calcitonin gene-related peptide on anastomotic healing in the presence of endotoxin.

Background: Intestinal anastomotic healing is a complex procedure in which several mediators, cytokines and other substances play roles, as well as calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). CGRP is capable of stimulating DNA synthesis and cell proliferation in endothelial cells by increasing vasodilatation and inflammatory response and promoting epithelial, vascular and mesothelial cell proliferation. This study was undertaken to investigate whether CGRP has a beneficial effect on intestinal anastomotic healing, even in septic conditions.

Pentoxifylline attenuates reperfusion injury in testicular torsion.

Objectives: An experimental study was designed to evaluate the effects of pentoxifylline (Ptx) on lipid peroxidation, and histopathology in both testes after unilateral testicular torsion and detorsion.

Materials And Methods: Forty adult male albino Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups of sham operation, sham operation with Ptx, torsion and detorsion, torsion and detorsion with Ptx. After intraperitoneal administration of Ptx at a dose of 50 mg/kg 15 min before torsion; right testes of the rats underwent 30 min of torsion and 30 min of detorsion.

Changes in blood haemorheological parameters after submaximal exercise in trained and untrained subjects.

The blood stream is affected by viscosity and many other haemorheological factors such as lipid peroxidation in the plasma and red blood cells. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes of haemorheological parameters after submaximal exercise in trained and untrained subjects. The results indicated that heart rate, lymphocyte count, erythrocyte deformability, plasma lipid peroxide levels and erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase activity are increased after submaximal exercise.
