As a relatively new form of sport, esports offers unparalleled data availability. Our work aims to open esports to a broader scientific community by supplying raw and pre-processed files from StarCraft II esports tournaments. These files can be used in statistical and machine learning modeling tasks and compared to laboratory-based measurements.

A comparison of free-living and sponge-associated bacterial communities from a remote oceanic island with a focus on calcareous sponges.

Calcareous sponges are an often overlooked element of sponge communities. In contrast to most other sponges, calcareous sponges produce calcium carbonate spicules, as opposed to the siliceous spicules of most sponges. Here, we investigated the bacterial communities of 17 sponge species, including type and paratype specimens of recently described calcareous species, sampled off the remote island of Rodrigues, in the Indian Ocean.

Background: Intravenous (IV) use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) is advised only in cases of suspected upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) or impossibility of receiving oral medication, although there has been a persistent practice of their inappropriate use in health institutions.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to measure the inappropriate use of IV PPIs in a high complexity hospital in Brazil and to estimate its costs.

Methods: Retrospective study of 333 patients who received IV omeprazole between July and December of 2018 in a high complexity hospital in Brazil.

An emerging area in schizophrenia research focuses on the impact of immunomodulatory drugs such as melatonin, which have played important roles in many biological systems and functions, and appears to be promising. The objective was to evaluate the effect of melatonin on behavioral parameters in an animal model of schizophrenia. For this, Wistar rats were divided and used in two different protocols.

Hubertia ambavilla, an endemic plant originating from Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, is traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory and in healing, both for internal and external use. Polyphenolic compounds from aqueous phase extractions can reduce metal salts into nanoparticles and stabilize them in one step. Although gold nanoparticles are well described in the literature as anti-ageing ingredients, the nanoparticles presented herein are novel and are synthesized using a green process.
