Case-based diagnostic reasoning conferences, like morning reports, allow undergraduate medical trainees to practice diagnostic reasoning alongside senior clinicians. However, trainees have reported discomfort doing so. Peer-assisted learning offers an alternative approach.

Diagnostic Approach to the Patient with Altered Mental Status.

Acute encephalopathy is a common presenting symptom in the emergency room and complicates many hospital and intensive care unit admissions. The evaluation of patients with encephalopathy poses several challenges: limited history and examination due to the patient's mental status, broad differential diagnosis of systemic and neurologic etiologies, low yield of neurodiagnostic testing due to the high base rate of systemic causes, and the importance of identifying less common neurologic causes of encephalopathy that can be life-threatening if not identified and treated. This article discusses the differential diagnosis of acute encephalopathy, presents an approach to the history and examination in a patient with encephalopathy, reviews the literature on the yield of neurodiagnostic testing in this population, and provides a diagnostic framework for the evaluation of patients with altered mental status.

Prior Sexual Aggression as a Moderator of an Integrated Alcohol and Sexual Assault Prevention Program for Heavy Drinking College Men: A Brief Report.

Objective: Sexual aggression and heavy drinking are interrelated concerns among college men. As a result, integrated prevention interventions now exist to address co-occurring risk for sexual aggression and heavy drinking. The Sexual Assault and Alcohol Feedback and Education (SAFE) program is a multi-session integrated alcohol and sexual assault prevention program for college men that addresses alcohol use, sexual activity, social norms, alcohol-related sexual consequences, understanding of consent, and engagement in bystander intervention.

Cardiac sarcoidosis in patients with recurrent ventricular arrhythmias refractory to endocardial ablation.

Introduction: The clinical presentation of cardiac sarcoidosis is diverse. Detection of granuloma in histopathological evaluation proves the diagnosis, but endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) is associated with a high sampling error. However, prompt immunosuppressive therapy may significantly affect patient's prognosis.

Human infection with IsrRAPXV, a novel zoonotic bat-derived poxvirus.

Background: Bats are recognized as the natural reservoir of several zoonotic viruses that pose a threat to public health worldwide. In our recent reports we describe the identification of a novel poxvirus, IsrRAPXV, in Egyptian fruit bats. This poxvirus is associated with high morbidity and mortality in bats.
