Social determinants of health, such as food insecurity, can significantly impact patient welfare, potentially increasing the prevalence of chronic illnesses while hindering their management, as shown in previous data collected by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. This study aimed to investigate the association between food insecurity and other social determinants of health with hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and hypertension. To that end, self-reported data on food security from clinical encounters and biological data from medical records were collected.

Background: Prior research has shown a positive association of pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PXG) in patients with non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), likely due to an increase in ultraviolet exposure associated with both. However, the role of NMSC as a genetic risk factor for PXG has not been examined. Thus, the goal of this study is to utilize Mendelian randomization with genome-wide association studies to evaluate for genetic causality while controlling for environmental confounders.

Prolyl hydroxylase domain enzyme inhibitors (PHDIs) stabilize hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), and are protective in models of acute ischemic and inflammatory kidney disease. Whether PHDIs also confer protection in chronic inflammatory kidney disease models remains unknown. Here we investigated long-term effects of PHDI treatment in adenine-induced nephropathy as a model for chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis.
