Enhanced postoperative lymphatic staging of malignant melanoma by endoscopically assisted iliacoinguinal dissection.

Radical lymphadenectomy for malignant melanoma continues to be controversial. In order to reduce morbidity but preserve prognostic informations, a minimally invasive technique for the iliac part of dissection was developed. We evaluated the practicability of this intervention under routine conditions as well as its prognostic impact.

Current clinical status of sentinel lymph nodes in colon and proximal rectal cancer.

The postoperative report of the lymph node status of colorectal cancer in clinical practice is not a given fact. Among other factors, it is dependent on the experience and technique of the surgeon as well as the pathologist. Therefore a method like sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) that identifies and provides for analysis the lymph node at highest risk for tumour involvement would be highly beneficial.

[Usefulness of the GEOPTE scale--self-rating scale of social cognition for persons suffering from schizophrenia].

Aim: To analyse psychometric value of the Polish version of the GEOPTE Scale, a self-rating scale measuring social cognition among persons suffering from schizophrenic psychoses.

Method: Fifty patients with diagnosis of schizophrenia according to ICD-10 criteria were assessed by the scale under study. Analysis of its usefulness included: reliability (as internal consistency), validity - as content, construct, and diagnostic validity in relation to selected measures of mental state (CGI scale, PANSS), social (GAF scale, SOFAS), and cognitive functioning (WCST and N-back test), and feasibility of the scale - according to observed patients' coping with the task.

[Risk factors for the development of lymphatic fistula after ilioinguinal lymph node dissection before isolated limb perfusion and its potential clinical relevance].

Introduction: After ilioinguinal radical lymph node dissection (RLND), the therapy for lymph fistulas constitutes a challenge. Risk factors for the genesis of lymph fistulas have not been sufficiently evaluated. We investigated possible factors that could influence the development of lymph fistulas in patients suffering from malignant melanoma after iloinguinal RLND.
