Background: Prior studies into the association of head trauma with neuropathology have been limited by incomplete lifetime neurotrauma exposure characterization.

Objective: To investigate the neuropathological sequelae of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in an autopsy sample using three sources of TBI ascertainment, weighting findings to reflect associations in the larger, community-based cohort.

Methods: Self-reported head trauma with loss of consciousness (LOC) exposure was collected in biennial clinic visits from 780 older adults from the Adult Changes in Thought study who later died and donated their brain for research.

Article Synopsis
  • Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a rare neurodegenerative disease characterized by abnormal protein aggregation and leads to motor and autonomic dysfunction.
  • Previous genetic studies didn’t find variants linked to MSA, prompting researchers to focus on autopsy-confirmed cases rather than merely clinical diagnoses.
  • The study identified significant genetic markers associated with MSA (located on chromosomes 3, 4, and 8), particularly highlighting the potential role of the ZIC4 gene in neuron vulnerability, especially in patients with different MSA types.

Purpose: To evaluate the long-term efficacy of combined radiotherapy (RT) and hyperthermia (HT) in a large mono-institutional cohort of breast cancer (BC) patients affected by recurrent, newly diagnosed non-resectable or high risk resected tumor.

Materials And Methods: Records of BC patients treated with RT + HT between 1995 and 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. RT doses of 50-70 Gy concurrent to a twice per week superficial HT were applied.
