Cleft Lip and Palate Correction: The Utah Protocol.

Background: Cleft repair remains a contentious issue in craniofacial surgery, especially regarding the optimal timing and techniques. This study aims to present our institutions' current protocol for cleft lip and palate repair, including alveolar bone grafting (ABG).

Methods: A total of 17 patients (20 clefts) treated with the latest protocol from 2016 to 2023 were evaluated.

Mass spectrometry has enhanced the accuracy of assessing post-mortem protein decay, with skeletal muscle being the most studied substrate due to its intrinsic properties of postmortem decay. In this pilot study, human skeletal muscle tissue (iliopsoas) was harvested and allowed to decay under controlled temperature and humidity conditions at predetermined intervals.

Management of mandibular fractures often involves the use of maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) to attain immobility of the fractured segments. This can be used as a primary treatment modality or as an adjunct in fracture management. This technique, however, has its drawbacks due to the great burden of care imposed on patients.
