The use of recycled aggregates in the production of concrete and mortar represents a sustainable way to reintroduce these constituents-which are typically treated as waste and disposed of-in the production chain, providing new value to potentially polluting materials. The effect of recycled aggregates has been widely studied in the production of concrete due to the directions of National Standards in Italy; however, their role in the manufacturing of mortar must be investigated further due to the high variability that can be observed in the literature. In particular, the aim of this paper is the mechanical characterization of sustainable mortars defined by different mix designs and different binders, in which the aggregates are gradually replaced by a recycled sand obtained from the grinding of construction and demolition wastes, which could include old concrete, clay bricks, and minimal amounts of other kinds of residual materials.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with Brugada syndrome (BrS) face dangerous heart rhythm issues, and diagnosing it can be tricky due to atypical ECG patterns and the limited detectability of genetic markers like SCN5A variants.
  • A study screened plasma from 50 BrS patients and found that 90% had anti-NaV1.5 autoantibodies, which were absent in 94% of control participants, indicating these autoantibodies could be a reliable diagnostic tool.
  • The presence of these autoantibodies not only affects sodium current density but also induces Brugada-like ECG changes in experimental models, suggesting an autoimmune aspect to BrS that should be considered along with genetic factors.

The utilization of plant biostimulants has gained importance as a strategy by which to improve plant productivity and soil health. Two independent trials were conducted across two seasons (2021 and 2023) to evaluate the effects of foliar or soil applications of various commercial organo-mineral fertilizers (Futuroot, Radicon Amifort) with biostimulant action that is exerted on yield and fruit characteristics of processing tomato crops (cv Taylor F1) that have been exposed to mineral macronutrients. These treatments were administered three times during the season: at the transplanting, pre-flowering and berry development stages.

Purpose: A major barrier to glaucoma medication adherence is the patient's out-of-pocket costs. At the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC), the institutional pharmacy piloted a program to query out-of-pocket costs for each patient's medication list based on their insurance coverage. This study aims to describe the impact of this collaboration between the glaucoma service and the outpatient pharmacy service.
