Non-ionotropic NMDAR signalling activates Panx1 to induce P2X4R-dependent long-term depression in the hippocampus.

In recent years, evidence supporting non-ionotropic signalling by the NMDA receptor (niNMDAR) has emerged, including roles in long-term depression (LTD). Here, we investigated whether niNMDAR-pannexin-1 (Panx1) contributes to LTD at the CA3-CA1 hippocampal synapse. Using whole-cell, patch clamp electrophysiology in rat hippocampal slices, we show that a low-frequency stimulation (3 Hz) of the Schaffer collaterals produces LTD that is blocked by continuous but not transient application of the NMDAR competitive antagonist, MK-801.

Does the outcome of acupuncture differ according to the location of sham needling points in acupuncture trials for migraine? A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Various acupuncture clinical trials have been conducted on migraine; however, the conclusions remain controversial especially when acupuncture was compared with sham acupuncture. Sham acupuncture is sometimes performed at the same acupuncture points used for verum acupuncture despite the evidence on acupuncture point specificity. Four databases were searched for sham acupuncture or waiting list-controlled acupuncture trials for migraine on December 25, 2023.

Vitamin D Supplementation for Treating Atopic Dermatitis in Children and Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting up to 20% of children and 10% of adults worldwide. Current research suggests a correlation between serum vitamin D level and AD severity and that vitamin D supplementation could have a potential therapeutic effect on AD.

Objectives: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies of vitamin D supplementation for disease improvement in children and adults with AD.

: The objectives of this study were (1) to systematically review the currently used definitions of incidental 2-deoxy-2-[F]fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography findings (IPFs) in the literature and (2) to propose an IPF definition. : A systematic search was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement. The search was guided by the question "How is IPF defined?" and was performed in MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Library.

Ergonomic challenges in healthcare: mapping physical load during patient transfers using electromyographic field measurements.

Purpose: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are prevalent among healthcare workers. These workers experience high rates of low-back pain; partly due to the high physical demands of patient transfers. Understanding the specific transfer scenarios that contribute to high physical loads is therefore crucial for developing strategies to improve working conditions.
