The catalysts with platinum-group metals on nanostructured carbons have been a very active field of research, but the studies were mainly limited to Pt and Pd. Here, Ru catalysts based on nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs) have been prepared and thoroughly characterized; Ru loading was kept constant (3 wt.%), while the degree of N-doping was varied (from 0 to 4.

Male BALB/c mice with streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus were used to study nuclear DNA (nDNA) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) damage using comet DNA assay and real-time PCR, respectively. In animals receiving single injection of streptozotocin in a dose of 200 mg/kg, severe hyperglycemia was observed on days 10 and 21 of the experiment, while after 5-fold administration of streptozotocin in a dose of 40 mg/kg, it developed on days 14 and 28. DNA damage and the level of atypical DNA comets in the liver increased both on days 10 and 21 after single administration of streptozotocin, and on days 14 and 28 after repeated administrations.

Foodborne infections are an important global health problem due to their high prevalence and potential for severe complications. Bacterial contamination of meat during processing at the enterprise can be a source of foodborne infections. Polymeric coatings with antibacterial properties can be applied to prevent bacterial contamination.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of a new eye drop combination (Brinzolol Duo) for treating early stages of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
  • Both Brinzolol Duo and a standard treatment (Azarga) were given to patients twice daily for 84 days, showing that both significantly lowered intraocular pressure (IOP).
  • Results indicated that both treatments had similar success rates with good tolerance among patients, confirming that Brinzolol Duo is as effective as Azarga in managing IOP in POAG patients.
