Pancreatic surgery after preoperative biliary drainage in periampullary cancers: does timing matter? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) has been introduced to control the negative effects of obstructive jaundice in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). The optimal time interval between PBD and PD remains unclear. The purpose of our systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the optimal period for PBD before PD.

Case report of an abdominal wet gangrene caused by Acidaminococcus.

The Acidaminococcus genus is a part of the normal flora in gastrointestinal tract. It is a strictly anaerob Gram-negative coccus that is rarely pathogenic. We report the case of a 58-year-old man, who presented to surgery department A of the Charles Nicolle hospital, complaining of a wide inflammatory lesion in the anterior abdominal wall evolving for two weeks.

Right-sided acute diverticulitis in a North African country: Presentation and management in one surgical center.

Purpose: Right-sided diverticulitis is a rare entity in North Africa. Therefore, it is usually misdiagnosed, and the management of cecal diverticulitis is aggressive in most cases, whereas nowadays, most studies recommend a conservative approach with promising results. This study aims to describe the presentation, management, and outcomes of right-sided diverticulitis (RSD) and to present the experience of one surgical center in Tunisia.

Siewert II esophagogastric junction adenocarcinoma: Still searching for the right treatment transabdominal or transthoracic surgical approaches?

Introduction: To date, the discussion is still ongoing whether the Siewert II adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG) should be resected either by thoracoabdominal esophagectomy or gastrectomy with resection of the distal esophagus by transhiatal extension. The aim of our study was to compare the oncological and perioperative outcomes of the transthoracic approach (TTA) and the transabdominal approach (TAA).

Methods: Searches of electronic databases identifying studies from Cochrane, PubMed and Google Scholar were performed.

Acute cholecystitis in pregnant women: A therapeutic challenge in a developing country center.

Backgrounds/aims: Acute cholecystitis is a rare condition in pregnant women, potentially affecting the maternal and fetal prognosis. Our aim was to report the main clinical and paraclinical features of acute cholecystitis during pregnancy and therapeutic modalities.

Methods: We conducted a case series analysis recording pregnant patients with acute cholecystitis admitted to our surgery department over a period of 11 years.
