Purpose: Spectral computed tomography (CT) enables improved tissue characterization, although virtually all research has focused on contrast-enhanced examinations. We hypothesized that changes in myocardial tissue related to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) might potentially be identified without the need for contrast administration using electron density (ED) imaging.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective observational study involved a small series (n = 15) of patients admitted to our institution with a first AMI without signs of hemodynamic instability and identification of a culprit vessel with invasive coronary angiography during the same admission, who also underwent a noncontrast, low-dose chest CT using a dual-layer spectral CT scanner.

A family of ruthenium(II) complexes containing one 2,2'-biimidazole (bim) ligand and two polypyridyl (NN) ligands has been prepared and their photophysical and photochemical features have been tested in the presence of tenuazonic acid (TeA), a widespread food and feed mycotoxin of current concern. While not tested in in vivo studies, TeA and other secondary metabolites of fungi are suspected to exert adverse effects on the human health, so sensors and rapid analytical procedures are required. It is well-known that 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds such as TeA are relatively easy to deprotonate (the p of TeA is 3.

The aim of this work was to study the changes in the functional characteristics of a fermented maize product containing fruits, and enriched with phytosterols. Functional characteristics (natural antioxidants and phytosterols content, in vitro antioxidant capacity and probiotic viability), lipid oxidation, and physicochemical parameters were investigated during 4 weeks of storage at 4 °C. The differences between one formulation elaborated with semi-skimmed powdered milk (Basic Product) and another with whey protein isolate (WPI Product) were evaluated.

Background: Collective risk factors such as climate and pollution impact on the risk of acute cardiovascular events, including ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). There is limited data however on the precise temporal and independent association between these factors and STEMI, and the potentially interacting role of government policies against Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), especially for Latin America.

Methods: We retrospectively collected aggregate data on daily STEMI admissions at 10 tertiary care centers in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, Argentina, from January 1, 2017 to November 30, 2020.
