Complex contraception provision during the COVID-19 pandemic, how did sexual health services fare?

Background: This study evaluated whether sexual health services (SHS) across the UK could meet the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health (FSRH) standard for access by being able to offer an appointment for a long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) fitting within 2 weeks of initial contact.

Methods: SHSs offering LARCs were identified using the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) clinic database. During October 2020, all clinics open for more than 1 day a week were contacted by telephone.

[Effect of microwaves on Chlamydomonas actinochloris culture in the stationary phase of growth].

Effects of the microwave radiation on the culture of Chlamydomonas actinochloris green flagellar alga in the stationary phase of growth are studied. After exposure to radiation at the maximum dose of 125 J/g, the cell functional state worsened but all the studied parameters were restored in 20 days and in the long run found to be even better than the control indices. The data are compared with the similar ones obtained earlier for the lag phase culture.

[Estimation of ROS in the presence of biologically active substances by porous silicon fluorescence].

The fluorescence spectra of the porous silicon modified by water solutions of biologically active materials and materials of biological origin are recorded as well as the fluorescence spectra of the porous silicon modified by lecithin monolayers grown on the surface of water solutions of the biologically active materials. The analysis of the obtained spectra made it possible to conclude on the effect of the studied materials on the content of ROS.

[Development of the Chlamydomonas actinochloris culture after microwave irradiation].

Effect of the microwave irradiation on the subsequent development of the Chlamydomonas actinochloris culture is studied. The number of cells in the suspension was controlled and photoluminescence measurements were performed for 25 days to estimate the functional state of the cells. The exposure at a dose of 80 J/g is shown to negligibly affect the green alga, whereas the 122 J/g dose led to deterioration of the functional state and, thereafter, to the death of most cells.

[Local treatment of operation wounds in patients with acute paraproctitis using preparation distreptase].

The results of local treatment of an acute paraproctitis in 37 patients, using suppositoria Distreptase (Biomed Sara and Vassinas Production Ltd., Lyublin, Poland) were analyzed. There were noted sufficiently high efficacy of treatment, in particular, the necrolysis resolution approaching, the wounds granulation and epithelization beginning as well as reduction of the patients treatment period.
