Rurality and relative poverty drive acquisition of a stable and diverse gut microbiome in early childhood in a non-industrialized setting.

There are limited longitudinal data from non-industrialized settings on patterns and determinants of gut bacterial microbiota development in early childhood. We analysed epidemiological data and stool samples collected from 60 children followed from early infancy to 5 years of age in a rural tropical district in coastal Ecuador. Data were collected longitudinally on a wide variety of individual, maternal, and household exposures.

Blood matters: the hematological signatures of Coronavirus infection.

Recent developments have broadened our perception of SARS-CoV-2, indicating its capability to affect the body systemically beyond its initial recognition as a mere respiratory pathogen. However, the pathways of its widespread are not well understood. Employing a dual-modality approach, we integrated findings from a Murine Hepatitis Virus (MHV) infection model with corroborative clinical data to investigate the pervasive reach of Coronaviruses.

Imaging Challenges and Developments in Large-vessel Vasculitis.

Vascular imaging is an integral part of large-vessel vasculitis (LVV) evaluation and management. Several imaging modalities are currently employed in clinical practice including vascular ultrasound, computed tomography angiography, MRI and magnetic resonance angiography, and F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET. Well-established roles for imaging in LVV include disease diagnosis and assessment of luminal lesions reflecting vascular damage.

Co-Circulation of 2 Oropouche Virus Lineages, Amazon Basin, Colombia, 2024.

In early 2024, explosive outbreaks of Oropouche virus (OROV) linked to a novel lineage were documented in the Amazon Region of Brazil. We report the introduction of this lineage into Colombia and its co-circulation with another OROV lineage. Continued surveillance is needed to prevent further spread of OROV in the Americas.
