Repeated traumatic brain injury has grown in importance as sports-related injuries have increased. Repetitive mild TBI (rmTBI) increases the risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, as well as chronic comorbidities like PTSD, depression, substance abuse and neuroendocrine functions. However, no effective therapeutic strategies have been reported for the effective management of TBI.

This work reports the synthesis of hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanoparticles co-doped with trivalent terbium (Tb) and samarium (Sm) ions by a surfactant free chemical precipitation method. Co-doping enables to combine the optical properties of Tb and Sm ions. Characterization techniques like X-Ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were used to determine the crystalline and structural properties.

A bacterial ghost cell is an empty cell envelope of bacteria lacking cytoplasmic content. Bacterial ghost cells (BGs) can be used for various applications such as vaccines, adjuvants, and drug delivery systems. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, prevalent in the elderly population. Neuropathological hallmarks of PD include loss of dopaminergic cells in the nigro-striatal pathway and deposition of alpha-synuclein protein in the neurons and synaptic terminals, which lead to a complex presentation of motor and non-motor symptoms. This review focuses on various aspects of PD, from clinical diagnosis to currently accepted treatment options, such as pharmacological management through dopamine replacement and surgical techniques such as deep brain stimulation (DBS).
