Anatomical Aspects and Long-Term Outcomes of Additional Surgical Repair During Heart Transplantation in Adult Congenital Heart Disease.

Adult patients with congenital heart disease (ACHD) requiring heart transplantation (HT) usually show complex anatomies, posing surgical challenges. Consequently, we analyzed technical aspects and early and long-term outcomes of additional surgical repairs during HT in ACHD. Forty patients were identified (23 males, median age: 38 years, interquartile range [IQR]: 26-50).

Combination of Coevolutionary Information and Supervised Learning Enables Generation of Cyclic Peptide Inhibitors with Enhanced Potency from a Small Data Set.

Computational generation of cyclic peptide inhibitors using machine learning models requires large size training data sets often difficult to generate experimentally. Here we demonstrated that sequential combination of Random Forest Regression with the pseudolikelihood maximization Direct Coupling Analysis method and Monte Carlo simulation can effectively enhance the design pipeline of cyclic peptide inhibitors of a tumor-associated protease even for small experimental data sets. Further studies showed that such -evolved cyclic peptides are more potent than the best peptide inhibitors previously developed to this target.

Paradoxical Deterioration During Treatment of Tuberculous Meningitis Responded to Infliximab But Not to Steroids.

Unlabelled: Paradoxical deterioration in patients with tuberculous meningitis is a significant diagnostic and treatment challenge. We present the case of a 55-year-old previously healthy male, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative, presenting with headache, fever, agitation and slurred speech, who was ultimately diagnosed with tuberculous meningoencephalitis confirmed by cerebrospinal fluid polymerase chain reaction positive for complex. After initiation of a standard antitubercular therapy combined with glucocorticoids, the patient experienced an initial neurological improvement.

[Update. Inventory of occupational exposure to asbestos with particular reference to Tuscan worker].

This Catalogue is a collection of information on the use of raw asbestos and asbestos-containing materials used in several industries and occupational activities, with particular attention to the situation of Tuscany, a region of Central Italy. The work was developed at the Institute for Cancer Research, Prevention and Clinical Network (ISPRO) of Florence, where epidemiologic research and surveillance activities have been developing since 1988 and where the coordination and evaluation of the regional health surveillance programme provided to past asbestos workers started in 2016 and is still ongoing. The Catalogue aims at being a working tool for all health professionals engaged in examining and classifying the occupational asbestos exposures of subjects both affected by diseases that could be associated to this carcinogen and examined within the regional health surveillance programme.

Tumors of the foot are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms that either affect soft tissues or bone, with a predominance being benign. Mistakes in the diagnosis of neoplastic conditions are common. A correct diagnostic approach supported by radiological and histological examination is mandatory.
