Transcutaneous carbon dioxide (TcPCO2) monitoring provides a non-invasive alternative to measuring arterial carbon dioxide (PaCO2), making it valuable for various applications, such as sleep diagnostics and neonatal care. However, traditional transcutaneous monitors are bulky, expensive, and pose risks such as skin burns. To address these limitations, we have introduced a compact, cost-effective CMOS imager-based sensor for TcPCO2 detection by utilizing colorimetric reactions with metal-organic framework (MOF)-based nano-hybrid materials.

Article Synopsis
  • Centromeres rely on the histone variant CENP-A and the role of surrounding DNA repeats is not fully understood, while retroelements are abundant in centromeres and may help with transcription and CENP-A integration.* -
  • This study focuses on the retroelement Jockey-3 in Drosophila melanogaster, showing it is a significant part of the centromeric transcriptome and that its RNA localizes to centromeres during cell division.* -
  • The research suggests that Jockey-3 inserts itself at centromeres to aid its own replication, while also supporting transcription in these areas, which could provide insights into similar mechanisms in other species.*

Background: Acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a critical cardiovascular condition requiring timely intervention to restore coronary blood flow and minimize myocardial damage. While percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains the gold standard, it is often insufficient for patients with complex coronary anatomy, such as multivessel disease or left main coronary artery involvement. Hybrid coronary revascularization (HCR), which combines PCI and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), offers a novel approach to managing these complex cases.
