Systems with broken continuous symmetry in ideal lattices cannot be rectified through rearrangement or deformation. Topological metamaterials featuring nontrivial, artificially induced phase transitions have emerged as pivotal constituents for engineering these topological defects, which, until now, have mostly been experimentally realized in linear or planar configurations. Buckminster Fuller lent his name to the C ball-shaped carbon allotrope, which is not only the roundest molecule in existence but also embodies 3D topological defects.

Distinguishing between primary (PID) and secondary (SID) immunodeficiencies, particularly in relation to hematological B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (B-CLPD), poses a major clinical challenge. We aimed to analyze and define the clinical and laboratory variables in SID patients associated with B-CLPD, identifying overlaps with late-onset PIDs, which could potentially improve diagnostic precision and prognostic assessment. We studied 37 clinical/laboratory variables in 151 SID patients with B-CLPD.

Article Synopsis
  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) significantly impacts cardiovascular event recurrence in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), particularly in those without prior cardiovascular disease.
  • The study identified two groups based on the severity of OSA and utilized proteomics to analyze plasma proteins, revealing 24 differentially expressed proteins associated with OSA severity.
  • Bioinformatic analysis suggested that these proteins are involved in key molecular pathways related to immune function, cell signaling, and inflammation, linking OSA to adverse cardiovascular outcomes.

Introduction: Among all patients with hypertension, those with resistant hypertension (RH) have the highest rates of subclinical organ damage (SOD). The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is high in RH patients, and it could contribute to SOD. We aimed to investigate how OSA and its treatment are related to SOD in a large cohort of RH patients.
