A voxel-based morphometric magnetic resonance imaging study of the brain detects age-related gray matter volume changes in healthy subjects of 21-45 years old.

Previous and more recent work of analyzing structural changes in the brain suggest that certain brain regions such as the frontal lobe are among the brain regions profoundly affected by the aging process across males and females. Also, a unified model of structural changes in a normally aging brain is still lacking. The present study investigated age-related structural brain changes in gray matter from young to early middle-age adulthood for males and females.

The outcome of the Ahmad Glaucoma Valve implantation for refractory glaucoma in Kuwait.

Aim: To assess the outcomes and incidence of postoperative complications of Ahmad Glaucoma Valve implant in eyes with complicated glaucoma performed in Kuwait.

Method: This is a retrospective study done at the Al-Bahar Eye Center in Kuwait. Charts of all patients who underwent Ahmad Glaucoma Valve implant at the Al-Bahar Ophthalmic Center in Kuwait between 2006 and 2009 were reviewed.

The efficacy of six local anesthetic formulations used for posterior mandibular buccal infiltration anesthesia.

Objective: The authors conducted a randomized, double-blind clinical trial to evaluate pulpal anesthesia achieved after mandibular infiltration of five commonly marketed dental local anesthetic formulations as compared with a control formulation of lidocaine with epinephrine.

Methods: The authors evaluated 2 percent lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine (L100) against 4 percent articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine (A100), 4 percent articaine with 1:200,000 epinephrine (A200), 4 percent prilocaine with 1:200,000 epinephrine (P200), 3 percent mepivacaine without vasoconstrictor (Mw/o) and 0.5 percent bupivacaine with 1:200,000 epinephrine (B200).

The Kuwait cataract outcome study: a 12-month evaluation.

Objective: To assess the frequency of intraopertive difficulties, postoperative complications and the visual outcome in cataract surgery performed at the Al-Bahar Eye Center, Kuwait.

Subjects And Methods: This case series study is comprised of 350 eyes from 325 subjects (169 male, 156 female; 30-78 years, mean age 64 years) undergoing consecutive cataract surgery performed at the Al-Bahar Eye Center, Kuwait from July 2001 to June 2002. All the eyes underwent extensive ophthalmic examinations before and after surgery.

Cataract and ocular hypertension in children on inhaled corticosteroid therapy.

Purpose: To ascertain the incidence of posterior subcapsular cataract and ocular hypertension in a cohort of children < or = 12 years on inhaled steroid therapy.

Patients And Methods: In this prospective study, a detailed history regarding corticosteroid therapy was obtained for children attending an asthma clinic. The presence and type of lens changes (cataract) was recorded and intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured.
