Article Synopsis
  • Poor ovarian response (POR) affects women over 35 with low ovarian reserve, making it hard to achieve live births; this study tests astaxanthin as a treatment to improve outcomes.
  • 60 POR patients underwent a trial, receiving either astaxanthin or a placebo while monitoring various oxidative stress and inflammation markers.
  • Results showed that the astaxanthin group had better serum antioxidant levels and lower inflammatory markers, though no main differences were found in follicular fluid; this suggests astaxanthin might help with ovarian response in ART.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is related to pro-apoptotic and pro-inflammatory conditions generated by Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. This study aimed to determine the effect of Astaxanthin (ASX), as carotenoid with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, on serum inflammatory markers, apoptotic factors and ER stress-apoptotic genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of women with PCOS. This randomized, double-blind clinical trial included 56 PCOS patients aged 18-40.

Objective: Astaxanthin (ASX) is a lipid-soluble keto-carotenoid with several biological effects. These effects may benefit polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) patients. Imbalanced apoptosis/anti-apoptosis signaling has been considered the major pathogenesis of PCOS.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study presents a Delphi consensus from seven Iranian infertility experts focusing on the role of luteinizing hormone (LH) in assisted reproductive technology (ART), aiming to fill a gap in regional consensus documents related to LH supplementation.
  • - The consensus process involved three steps: an initial approval of eight statements, a vote by a 20-member panel, and a revision of one statement that initially lacked agreement, which then achieved an 83% consensus after modification.
  • - The findings emphasize the importance of incorporating expert clinical perspectives into guidelines, particularly to enhance treatment outcomes for patients with deficiencies in follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and LH.
