Importance: Sepsis screening is recommended among hospitalized patients but is supported by limited evidence of effectiveness.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of electronic sepsis screening, compared with no screening, on mortality among hospitalized ward patients.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In a stepped-wedge, cluster randomized trial at 5 hospitals in Saudi Arabia, 45 wards (clusters) were randomized into 9 sequences, 5 wards each, to have sepsis screening implemented at 2-month periods.

Terbium and nitrogen co-doped carbon dots (Tb@N-CDs), combined with α-lipoic acid-functionalized copper nanoclusters (LA@CuNCs), were proposed for the ratiometric detection of quinolone (QA) antibiotics. In this system, Tb@N-CDs facilitate the aggregation of LA@CuNCs, enhancing its fluorescence emission at 670 nm via aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE). Meanwhile, the fluorescence emission of Tb@N-CDs at 460 nm diminishes due to Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET).

An electrochemical sensing approach was developed for the detection of the agricultural antibiotic drug kasugamycin. The method involves the construction of an electrochemical sensor comprising molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) embedded within a carbon paste (CP) matrix. The MIPs are designed to have imprinted sites that match the size and geometry of the Cu(II)-kasugamycin coordinated complex.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cancer share common risk factors including obesity, inflammation, hyperglycemia, and hyperinsulinemia. High insulin levels activate the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway promoting cancer cell growth, survival, proliferation, metastasis, and anti-apoptosis. The inhibition of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway for cancer remains a promising therapy; however, drug resistance poses a major problem in clinical settings resulting in limited efficacy of agents; thus, combination treatments with therapeutic inhibitors may solve the resistance to such agents.

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) has emerged as a unique environment for evaluating altered stem cell properties in microgravity. LEO has become increasingly accessible for research and development due to progress in private spaceflight. Axiom Mission 2 (Ax-2) was launched as the second all-private astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
