Background: Hemorrhoidectomy is considered as the most effective approach for patients with grade III and grade IV hemorrhoids; the operative procedure may be associated with significant postoperative pain and other complications. Several surgical techniques and devices have been developed to overcome these postoperative problems.

Objective: To compare perioperative and postoperative outcomes of hemorrhoidectomy performed with the LigaSure and the conventional Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy among Nigerian patients with symptomatic hemorrhoids.

Penile agenesis is complete absence of the penis in an otherwise normal phenotypic and genotypic male at birth that results from failure of development of the genital tubercle. It is an extremely rare anomaly that may be associated with anomalies in other organ systems, the extent and severity of which may affect the prognosis. The management is challenging and may have far reaching implications for the individual and family.

Background: Despite overwhelming evidence in favour of a relaxed fasting protocol, the traditional practice of keeping patients nil per oral from midnight before the day of surgery for all elective operations still appears to hold sway in many practices.

Methods: A prospective study to evaluate the pattern of preoperative fasting among patients undergoing elective general surgical operations in the Department of Surgery, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, was conducted between June and December 2020. Data obtained was analysed using the IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 24, and presented as descriptive statistics in the form of frequencies and percentages.
