Safety evaluation of Bon-santé cleanser polyherbal in male Wistar rats: Further investigations on androgenic and toxicological profile.

Background: The global increase in acceptance and use of herbal remedies in recent times is still accompanied with poor knowledge of their potential adverse effects and the toxicological implications of their use are underestimated.

Methods: Bon-santé Cleanser (BSC), a polyherbal containing , , , is an "energizer and hormone booster". We assessed the effect of BSC on reproductive function after administration for 60 days in male Wistar rats.

Two cases of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada's disease in sub-Saharan Africa.

Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada's (VKH) disease has been reported to be rare in sub-Saharan Africa. Two Nigerians with the disease are presented in this report. The first patient, a 32-year-old pregnant Nigerian woman presented with a 1-month history of bilateral blurring of vision, persistent headache, and alopecia.

Pattern of conjunctival masses seen at Guinness Eye Centre Luth Idi-Araba.

Background: Conjunctival masses are growth on the surface of the outer eye; which may represent benign or malignant transformations.

Objective: To determine the pattern of presentation of conjunctival masses at the Guinness Eye Centre (GEC), Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi-Araba over a 13 year period (Jan 1995-Dec 2007).

Method: A retrospective review of the clinical notes of all patients that presented to GEC with conjunctival masses during the study period was carried out.

Aetiology of vitreous haemorrhage in Guinness Eye Centre, Lagos University Teaching Hospital over a two year period (June 2007-May 2009).

Background: The Vitreous Humour is the transparent biological gel which fills the posterior 5/6th of the eyeball. Extravasations of blood into this delicate tissue may cause visual loss.

Objective: The study was to determine the causes and pattern of vitreous haemorrhage in Guinness eye centre, Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

Incidence of postoperative eye infections in a private eye hospital in Lagos, Nigeria.

Background: There is a dearth of information on postoperative eye infections in Nigeria and most hospitals do not have an infection control program in place.

Objective: This study was done to investigate the incidence of post-operative eye infections, their potential sources and the preparedness of the hospital to prevent such infections.

Methods: A microbiological survey of all eye surgical procedures between March 2004 and May 2005 was performed.
