Chitosan nanoencapsulation of Turbinaria triquetra metabolites in the management of podocyturia in nephrotoxic rats.

Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic drug, which exhibits undesirable side effects. Chitosan nanoparticles are promising for drug delivery. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the brown alga Turbinaria triquetra ethyl acetate fraction and polysaccharides, either loaded on chitosan nanoparticles or free, against podocyturia and cisplatin nephrotoxicity in rats.

Efficacy of Structured Exercise on Swallowing and Pulmonary Functions in Cervicogenic Dysphagia: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Cervicogenic dysphagia (CD) is a swallowing difficulty caused by cervical problems, typically impacting swallowing function (SF) and pulmonary function (PF).

Objectives: To explore the effect of a structured exercise program comprising cervical stretching, strengthening, and stabilizing exercises on the SF and PF in patients with CD.

Participants: 32 patients (age 35-50 years) with CD were randomly allocated into a study group (n = 17) and a control group (n = 15).

The immune system is essential for the defense against infections and is critically implicated in various disorders, including immunodeficiency, autoimmunity, inflammation and cancer. The current study includes a new design of palmitoylated derivatives of thioglycolic acids (PTGAs) capable of triggering innate immune responses. The new series were accessible through a three-step synthetic route, including N-palmitoylation, Claisen-Schmidt condensation and thia-Michael addition.

Intravenous immunoglobulin therapy: usage patterns and response to treatment in Qatar over ten years.

Background: IVIg is a blood-derived antibody product initially designed as a replacement therapy in inborn errors of immunity (IEIs). However, over the last 50 years, IVIg has been used to treat a growing range of autoimmune, autoinflammatory, and secondary immunodeficiency disorders. The US FDA has licensed IVIg for use in the treatment of nine clinical indications; although, IVIg global usage extends to off-label indications with variable treatment responses.

A Coexisting Adjacent Intradural and Extradural Spinal Cavernoma: A Rare Case.

A 34-year-old female patient, with no comorbidities, presented with complaints of upper back pain across the shoulders, with altered sensation on the left side from trunk to lower limb, which was associated with reduced motor function and an acute symptom of urinary retention. On examination, there was reduced power in the left lower limb, reduced anal tone, a positive Babinski sign bilaterally, and reduced sensation in the perianal region. Serial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans were conducted, where initially an upper thoracic lesion suggestive of an intramedullary cavernoma was found, and nearly a decade later, an adjacent extradural lesion causing cord compression was found incidentally through a surgical procedure.
