Material extrusion-based three-dimensional (3D) printing is a widely used manufacturing technology for fabricating scaffolds and devices in bone tissue engineering (BTE). This technique involves two fundamentally different extrusion approaches: solution-based and melt-based printing. In solution-based printing, a polymer solution is extruded and solidifies solvent evaporation, whereas in melt-based printing, the polymer is melted at elevated temperatures and solidifies as it cools post-extrusion.

Background: Induction of puberty in boys with constitutional delay of growth and puberty (CDGP) through a short course of low-dose testosterone therapy indicates the critical interaction between testosterone and the androgen receptor (AR) during the activation and maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis at puberty onset. Previous studies have shown an inverse relationship between the CAG repeat length and the transactivation function or expression level of the AR gene.

Objective: We aimed to investigate whether the AR CAG repeat polymorphism has any implications on pubertal delay.

Article Synopsis
  • Social activities are crucial for cognitive health in aging, but measuring engagement in these activities is challenging due to a lack of clear definitions.
  • The authors draw on their experiences from various studies, including the FINGER study, to discuss how social activities can be better integrated into dementia prevention efforts, emphasizing both qualitative participant experiences and the role of digital tools.
  • The paper advocates for future research to better define and measure social activities, encourage participation beyond structured interventions, and design digital technologies that support social engagement for older adults.

Embedded bioprinting is an emerging technology for precise deposition of cell-laden or cell-only bioinks to construct tissue like structures. Bioink is extruded or transferred into a yield stress hydrogel or a microgel support bath allowing print needle motion during printing and providing temporal support for the printed construct. Although this technology has enabled creation of complex tissue structures, it remains a challenge to develop a support bath with user-defined extracellular mimetic cues and their spatial and temporal control.
