Background: The issues of monitoring the effectiveness of iodine deficiency prevention programs are an important component in the process of iodine elimination. Neonatal thyrotropin (TSH) has been used as a criterion for the severity of iodine deficiency since 1994, however, the question of the "cut-off point" of the neonatal TSH level has been widely discussed in the recent literature.

Aim: Evaluate the criterion for neonatal hyperthyroidism above 5 mIU/l from the perspective of monitoring iodine deficiency and establish a «cut-off point» on the model of healthy pregnant women with adequate iodine status.

Purpose: To study glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) concentrations in aqueous humor (AH), lacrimal fluid (LF), and blood serum (BS) in patients with age-related cataract and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).

Methods: GDNF was studied in AH, LF, and BS in 47 patients with age-related cataract, and 30 patients with POAG combined with cataract (one eye in each person). AH was sampled during cataract surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • Azoximer bromide (AZB) was studied for its safety and efficacy in treating hospitalized COVID-19 patients, given its established benefits for upper respiratory infections in Russia.
  • In the study, 81 patients received AZB in combination with standard care, showing clinical improvement with no deaths reported during hospitalization, but one patient required ongoing respiratory support after 28 days.
  • Although AZB appeared to improve clinical outcomes and reduce hospitalization duration compared to a historical control group, more rigorous testing in a randomized, placebo-controlled trial is necessary to confirm its effectiveness.

Introduction: One important question for patients with both myopia and glaucoma is comparability of optical coherence tomography (OCT) data obtained before and after a significant change in eye refraction following cataract extraction surgery with implantation of intraocular lens (IOL).

Purpose: To assess the impact of correcting moderate and high myopia during cataract phacoemulsification with IOL implantation (Phaco/IOL) on the parameters measured by OCT.

Material And Methods: OCT was performed in 31 patients (31 eyes) with axial eye length of more than 25.

Fist-line drugs in ischemic heart disease are -adrenoblockers. However there are cases when comorbidities limit possibilities of their use. In metabolic syndrome some representatives of this class unfavorably affect insulin sensitivity, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.
