Nodal assessment and extranodal extension in head and neck squamous cell cancer: insights from computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate the concordance between computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and histological examination in the evaluation of lymph nodal involvement (N+) and extranodal extension (ENE+) in patients with squamous cell cancer of the head-neck district (HNSCC). The second end point was to evaluate which of the imaging features was more sensitive and specific in establishing N+ and ENE+, and comparing the diagnostic accuracy between CT and MRI.

Material And Methods: 58 patients with HNSCC undergoing surgical treatment with lymph node dissection at the Policlinico of Bari were enrolled in this retrospective study.

Petroleum hydrocarbons and heavy metals are some of the most widespread contaminants affecting marine ecosystems, urgently needing effective and sustainable remediation solutions. Microbial-based bioremediation is gaining increasing interest as an effective, economically and environmentally sustainable strategy. Here, we hypothesized that the heavily polluted coastal area facing the Sarno River mouth, which discharges >3 tons of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and ∼15 tons of heavy metals (HMs) into the sea annually, hosts unique microbiomes including marine bacteria useful for PAHs and HMs bioremediation.

Multimodal study of pelvic splenosis: a rare cause of abdominal pain.

We present a rare case of pelvic splenosis, in a 46-year-old man, with a previous history of partial splenectomy, complaining of nonspecific pain in the lower abdominal quadrants. Splenosis is a benign acquired condition, defined as a heterotopic autotransplantation of splenic tissue in other compartments of the body, caused by rupture of the splenic capsule following trauma or splenectomy. Splenosis is often asymptomatic and incidentally found and does not require treatment.

De Novo Transcriptome of the Flagellate Identifies Genes Involved in the Metabolism of Antiproliferative Metabolites.

Haptophytes are important primary producers in the oceans, and among the phylum Haptophyta, the flagellate has been found to be rich in high-value compounds, such as lipids, carotenoids and highly branched polysaccharides. In the present work, was cultured and collected at both stationary and exponential growth phases. A transcriptomic approach was used to analyze the possible activation of metabolic pathways responsible for bioactive compound synthesis at the gene level.
