The review is devoted to the use of antithrombotic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and chronic ischemic heart disease (IHD). We discuss data of international registries, meta-analyses assessing possibilities of the use of oral anticoagulants for secondary prevention of IHD. We present here results of randomized and observational clinical studies demonstrating advantages of prescription of monotherapy with oral anticoagulants (OAC) in combination of AF and chronic IHD.

Gender differences in cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) response are not clear enough. This study aimed to assess gender influence on systemic inflammation, neurohormonal activation, fibrosis in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) and CRT. We compared group I (61 men) and group II (16 women) of patients undergoing CRT.

Aim: To study the relationship between levels of sex hormones and effectiveness of cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) in men with chronic heart failure (CHF).

Materials And Methods: The best response to CRT (mean time, 38 [19,0;53,7] months) was identifed by a maximum decrease in left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV) in 58 men (mean age, 54.8±9.

The mechanisms of orientation of columnar liquid crystals (LCs) on a PTFE-rubbed surface are explored on a homologous series of symmetrically substituted poly(di--alkylsiloxanes) (PDAS). It is shown that by increasing the side-chain length in steps of one CH group, the orientation of PDAS switches back and forth from perpendicular to parallel with respect to PTFE chains. These changes are sensitive to the smallest possible variation of the macromolecular structure (i.

The control of structure formation in the active layers of organic solar cells allows for improvement in their processability and enhancement of the efficiency of the final devices. In the present work, in situ studies of film formation from binary toluene solutions of an electron donor, poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT), and an electron acceptor such as [6,6]-phenyl-C-61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) or indene-C60 bisadduct (ICBA) have been conducted. These experiments were carried out using GIWAXS with simultaneous electric current measurements.
