Objective: We aimed to develop and validate a novel multimodal framework erarchical ulti-task uxiliary earning ( framework, for predicting cognitive composite functions as auxiliary tasks that estimate the longitudinal risk of transition from Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
Materials And Methods: HiMAL utilized multimodal longitudinal visit data including imaging features, cognitive assessment scores, and clinical variables from MCI patients in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative dataset, to predict at each visit if an MCI patient will progress to AD within the next 6 months. Performance of HiMAL was compared with state-of-the-art single-task and multitask baselines using area under the receiver operator curve (AUROC) and precision recall curve (AUPRC) metrics.
Clinical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) have grown exponentially with increasing computational power and Big Data. Data rich fields such as Otology and Neurotology are still in the infancy of harnessing the power of AI but are increasingly involved in training and developing ways to incorporate AI into patient care. Current studies involving AI are focused on accessible datasets; health care wearables, tabular data from electronic medical records, electrophysiologic measurements, imaging, and "omics" provide huge amounts of data to utilize.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of post-neonatal infant mortality, but the underlying cause(s) are unclear. A subset of SIDS infants has abnormalities in the neurotransmitter, serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine [5-HT]) and the adaptor molecule, 14-3-3 pathways in regions of the brain involved in gasping, response to hypoxia, and arousal. To evaluate our hypothesis that SIDS is, at least in part, a multi-organ dysregulation of 5-HT, we examined whether blood platelets, which have 5-HT and 14-3-3 signaling pathways similar to brain neurons, are abnormal in SIDS.

The objective of this study is to pilot the implementation of the International Consortium of Health Outcomes Measurement CHD standard set in patients undergoing pulmonary valve replacement, a procedure performed in mostly well patients with diverse CHD.
Methods: Patients ≥ 8 years old undergoing catheterization-based pulmonary valve replacement were approached via various approaches for patient-reported outcomes, with a follow-up assessment at 3 months post-procedure.
