Saudi Arabia is one of the first countries in the eastern Mediterranean region to implement health care accreditation standards. This study provides valuable information pertaining to the impact of accreditation in the unique multicultural, multilingual competitive environment at King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Anesthesia for Cesarean section in a patient with a transposition of great arteries--case report.

Transposition of great arteries (TGA) is one of the mixing lesions between right and left side with a prevelance of 0.21 per 1,000 live births. A 25 years old lady from KSA, Gravida 3, Para 1 + 1, at 34 weeks gestational age was admitted to KAUH with symptoms suggestive of heart failure (NYHA Class IV).

Is antacid treatment necessary in obstetric anesthesia?

All the obstetric units in Jeddah were surveyed regarding the use of antacid prophylaxis and the methods of anesthesia used for emergency and elective cesarian section. The results were compared with the Western practice where marked variation was found but this apparently did not influence mortality from acid aspiration.
