Article Synopsis
  • Research on cubic boron nitride (PcBN) composites shows potential for improving cutting tool performance by incorporating microfibers made from refractory compounds.
  • The study focuses on creating two-layer composites reinforced with silicon carbide whiskers (SiCw) and aluminum oxide (AlO) microfibers to enhance stability during machining of hardened steels.
  • Tool-life tests demonstrate the effectiveness of these PcBN composites in cutting hardened KhVG steel under varying conditions, with various material properties analyzed for optimization.

Planarian freshwater flatworms have the unique ability to regenerate due to stem cell activity. The process of regeneration is extremely sensitive to various factors, including light radiation. Here, the effect of low-intensity LED light of different wavelengths on regeneration, stem cell proliferation and gene expression associated with these processes was studied.

This paper examines the effect of electromagnetic waves, with maxima in the green or red regions of the spectrum, on the morphofunctional state of multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells. The illumination regimes used in our experiments did not lead to any substantial heating of the samples; the physical parameters of the lighting were carefully monitored. When the samples were illuminated with a green light, no significant photostimulatory effect was observed.

It is known that visible light, including sunlight and laboratory lighting, adversely affect the development of embryos in vitro. In with article we present a technology for the synthesis of composite screens, capable to photoconvert UV and a part of the blue spectrum into red light with the maximum ~630 nm. It is established that the application of such transformed light with an evident red component raises the chances of embryos to survive and protects embryonic stem cells.
