The number of people with gastric cardia and distal oesophageal cancers has increased in the last five years. The Miligan-Morgan's operation has long been considered to be the "golden standard" of hemorrhoids' stage I-III treatment. The invention of distal branches of the upper rectal artery' suture ligation with mucopexia and lifting of the anal canal mucosa discovered new possibilities for hemorrhoids surgery, though there are still some questions considering long-term results. 151 cases of recurrence within 1-6 months were analyzed.

High-temperature modification of titania in the form of nanoplatelets is synthesized fast in one step at ambient conditions without any additional treatment like aging or calcination. Lecithin, which is the main component of lipid matrix of biological membranes, is first used as a structure-driven template. It is demonstrated that this natural surfactant can self-organize into lamellar L(α) mesophase when small amounts of water are admixed in its solution in nonpolar solvent.

It was shown first that solutions of nongelable polysaccharides, including such practically important ones as chitosan, hyaluronate, and cyclodextrin, can be gelled by generating silica in situ via sol-gel processing. This could be done owing to a novel silica precursor that is completely water-soluble and compatible with biopolymers. The gelation was caused by mineralization of carbohydrate macromolecules, which strengthened them and provided their cross-linking.
