MXenes are among the most diverse and prominent 2D materials. They are being explored in almost every field of science and technology, including biomedicine. In particular, they are being investigated for photothermal therapy, drug delivery, medical imaging, biosensing, tissue engineering, blood dialysis, and antibacterial coatings.

MXenes have been intensively investigated as photosensitizing agents for PTT. However, achieving the selectivity of MXenes to the tumor cells remains a challenge.

The labeled cells were transplanted intravenously to rats with occlusion of the median cerebral artery. Penetration of cells through the brain-blood barrier and their distribution in the brain of experimental animals were studied on serial cryostat sections.

We showed that microparticles in high doses (>10 μl stock suspension per 1 ml culture medium) significantly inhibited cell proliferation in culture.
