Endoscopic and morphological examinations of the upper gastrointestinal tract (GIT) were made in 80 patients with nonspecific ulcerative colitis (NUC). Tests for Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric juice acidity were also conducted. It was found that in many patients NUC was associated with development of nonspecific esophagitis, gastritis and duodenitis.

The influence of renitec and ednit on duodenal ulcer was studied in 25 patients with cardiac failure. It was found that renitec and ednit lowered both systolic and diastolic pressure, relieved gastralgia and dyspepsia. Duodenal ulcer healed in 87% of the patients.

The blood concentration of pituitary hormones (corticotropin, somatotropin, thyrotropin and prolactin) was studied in 145 male patients with aggravation of chronic pancreatitis and in 15 healthy male subjects. The pre-treatment concentration of corticotropin, somatotropin and thyrotropin was markedly increased and the level of prolactin had a tendency to decrease. By the end of treatment the level of thyrotropin and prolactin was fully normalized, the content of corticotropin had a tendency to decrease and the concentration of somatotropin somewhat decreased but did not reach the normal values.

The concentrations of calcitonin and parathormone were studied in 63 patients with chronic pancreatitis during exacerbation. The results obtained were analyzed with relation to the state of pancreatic exocrine and endocrine function, gravity of disease and the blood level of calcium. The concentration of calcitonin was considerably raised, the most noticeable elevation was observed in patients with a severe course.
