Summary of the National Cancer Institute 2023 Virtual Workshop on Medical Image De-identification-Part 1: Report of the MIDI Task Group - Best Practices and Recommendations, Tools for Conventional Approaches to De-identification, International Approaches to De-identification, and Industry Panel on Image De-identification.

De-identification of medical images intended for research is a core requirement for data-sharing initiatives, particularly as the demand for data for artificial intelligence (AI) applications grows. The Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT) of the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) convened a virtual workshop with the intent of summarizing the state of the art in de-identification technology and processes and exploring interesting aspects of the subject. This paper summarizes the highlights of the first day of the workshop, the recordings, and presentations of which are publicly available for review.

[Pilot project for the "Internship to Gain Experience in the Professional Field" in dentistry studies with a focus on acquiring communicative skills].

Background: The new dental licensing regulations provide for a professional field internship to give students an initial, comprehensive insight into their later professional field. The location, implementation and assessment are not specified and can take place within university dentistry or in cooperation with dental practices. The Kiel Dental Clinic decided to develop a concept for a two-week course, including practical training in private practices, and to take greater account of aspects of medical interviewing.

Perinatal mortality audits and reporting of perinatal deaths: systematic review of outcomes and barriers.

Background: Perinatal deaths are a devastating experience for all families and healthcare professionals involved. Audit of perinatal mortality (PNM) is essential to better understand the factors associated with perinatal death, to identify key deficiencies in healthcare provision and should be utilised to improve the quality of perinatal care. However, barriers exist to successful audit implementation and few countries have implemented national perinatal audit programs.

Background: It is important to examine perinatal deaths as part of a national mortality audit to identify risk factors. Implementing and re-evaluating recommendations from perinatal mortality audits completes the audit cycle, preventing similar deaths in the future. Lack of implementation results in recommendations recurring.

Effect of Varenicline on Tardive Dyskinesia: A Pilot Study.

Objective: Although evidence implicates striatal cholinergic impairment as a mechanism underlying tardive dyskinesia, trials of nonspecific cholinergic agents have been inconclusive. As a partial agonist at specific nicotinic receptor subtypes, varenicline reduces drug-induced dyskinesias in animal models suggesting promise as a treatment for tardive dyskinesia.

Methods: Three schizophrenia patients with tardive dyskinesia who were smokers underwent an open trial of varenicline.
