The biogenic polyamines, spermine (Spm) and spermidine, are organic polycations present in millimolar concentrations in all eukaryotic cells participating in the regulation of vital cellular functions including proliferation and differentiation. The design and biochemical evaluation of polyamine analogues are cornerstones of polyamine research. Here we synthesized and studied novel C-methylated Spm analogues: 2,11-dimethylspermine (2,11-MeSpm), 3,10-dimethylspermine (3,10-MeSpm), 2-methylspermine, and 2,2-dimethylspermine.

Printed Glycan Array: A Sensitive Technique for the Analysis of the Repertoire of Circulating Anti-carbohydrate Antibodies in Small Animals.

The repertoire of circulating anti-carbohydrate antibodies of a given individual is often associated with its immunological status. Not only the individual immune condition determines the success in combating internal and external potential threat signals, but also the existence of a particular pattern of circulating anti-glycan antibodies (and their serological level variation) could be a significant marker of the onset and progression of certain pathological conditions. Effect of Photodynamic Antibacterial Chemotherapy Combined with Antibiotics on Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria.

The well-known and rapidly growing phenomenon of bacterial resistance to antibiotics is caused by uncontrolled, excessive and inappropriate use of antibiotics. One of alternatives to antibiotics is Photodynamic Antibacterial Chemotherapy (PACT). In the present study, the effect of PACT using a photosensitizer Rose Bengal alone and in combination with antibiotics including methicillin and derivatives of sulfanilamide synthesized by us was tested against antibiotic-sensitive and antibiotic-resistant clinical isolates of Gram-positive and Gram-negative .

Fluorescence polarization immunoassay of colchicine.

In this study, a fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) technique was developed to determine colchicine (COL), an alkaloid of noxious plants of the order Liliales that is used in a number of medications to treat gout. An optimal combination of the polyclonal antibody and the antigen labelled with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) was selected. Conditions for the competitive interaction of the antigen in the tested samples and its fluorophore conjugate (COL-FITC) with anti-COL antibodies were optimised, and the analytical characteristics of the assay were determined.

Fine Tuning of Pyrene Excimer Fluorescence in Molecular Beacons by Alteration of the Monomer Structure.

Oligonucleotide probes labeled with pyrene pairs that form excimers have a number of applications in hybridization analysis of nucleic acids. A long excited state lifetime, large Stokes shift, and chemical stability make pyrene excimer an attractive fluorescent label. Here we report synthesis of chiral phosphoramidite building blocks based on (R)-4-amino-2,2-dimethylbutane-1,3-diol, easily available from an inexpensive d-(-)-pantolactone.
