Oral mucosal melanoma is a rare presentation of malignant melanoma with a 5-year survival rate of only 15%. Oral mucosal melanoma in situ (OMMIS) is its assumed precursor. This report describes one of only 20 documented cases of OMMIS and outlines how early clinical recognition resulted in prompt histopathological diagnosis and subsequent complete surgical excision.
