DC inhibitory receptor (DCIR) is a C-type lectin receptor selectively expressed on myeloid cells, including monocytes, macrophages, DCs, and neutrophils. Its role in immune regulation has been implicated in murine models and human genome-wide association studies, suggesting defective DCIR function associates with increased susceptibility to autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and Sjögren's syndrome. However, little is known about the mechanisms underlying DCIR activation to dampen inflammation.

Purpose: To assess whether medical undergraduates can be trained to effectively screen diabetic retinopathy (DR) by statistical comparison with a retina specialist at a tertiary eye care center in India.

Methods: Three final-year undergraduate medical students, having completed ophthalmology department rotation, received training from a retina specialist for grading DR, following which they were asked to grade a set of 50 fundus photographs centered on the macula with a view of 50° as sight-threatening DR (STDR), diabetic macular edema, and grade of DR. Agreement among the undergraduates and retina specialist was determined with the help of Cohen's Kappa coefficient.

The study is of great relevance with present day pandemic era where mushrooms have immunity enhancing properties and they convert agro-wastes into protein rich food. India is having a youth population of about 750 million and mushroom cultivation has good potential to contribute in national income as well as enhanced immunity. The key aspects undertaken during research were the spawn production, cultivation methodology, and the suitability of various factors affecting the production and yield attributes of Pleurotus eryngii under ambient conditions in subtropical areas.
