Hemorrhagic stroke (HS) in childhood accounts for almost 50% of childhood strokes, is among the top ten causes of deaths, or determines lifelong disability. These facts form significant socio-economic and demographic problems. The purpose of this review is to analyze current knowledge about HS in children.

Our hypothesis suggests that galectin-1, an anti-inflammatory member of the beta-galactoside-binding lectin family, regulates microglia and neuroinflammation in the aging brain. Through our in-silico analysis, we discovered a subcluster of microglia in the aged mouse brain that exhibited increased expression of galectin-1 mRNA.

The priority objective determining the effectiveness of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of hemorrhagic stroke is to identify the etiology of the disease. We report a case of hemorrhagic stroke in a 2-month old child with cytomegalovirus infection, which led to a negative outcome of the disease.
