Article Synopsis
  • Head-up tilt testing (HUT) is a procedure used to evaluate patients with syncope (fainting) to determine if there's a reflex cause, but existing protocols can be lengthy and vary in effectiveness.
  • This study focused on carotid sinus massage (CSM) as a potential quick predictor of HUT outcomes, involving 50 patients who underwent tests both before and after HUT.
  • The results showed that CSM had a high sensitivity (88.24%) and specificity (100%) in identifying patients who would test positive on the tilt table, suggesting that CSM could simplify the testing process.

Background: Patients with atrial fibrillation are frequently nonadherent to oral anticoagulants (OACs) prescribed for stroke and systemic embolism (SSE) prevention. We quantified the relationship between OAC adherence and atrial fibrillation clinical outcomes using methods not previously applied to this problem.

Methods And Results: Retrospective observational cohort study of incident cases of atrial fibrillation from population-based administrative data over 23 years.

Objective: To illustrate the challenges encountered when gathering rapidly synthesized evidence in response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Methods: In this article, we describe the challenges encountered when we performed a systematic literature review (SLR) of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the efficacy and safety of treatments for severe COVID-19. The methods of the SLR are described in full, to show the context of our objectives.

Unexpectedly, computed tomography (CT) imaging of the abdomen and pelvis revealed the presence of three giant aneurysms.

Immunotherapies are powerful disease-modifying agents in treating autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, their unique mechanisms of action confer a broad spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), which tend to be rare but complex, with significant risk for morbidity and mortality. We report a case of transverse myelitis in a patient with RA whose joint disease had been well-controlled with long-term intravenous abatacept.
